It's probably the bug of php4.2.
I have thrown it away and reinstall apache1.3.24+php4.1.2. everything is ok now

php4.2.0RC4 & apache 2.0.35 works fine.

but phpbb2 still puzzled me. For there is always some problems.

I'm not sure now which on earth causes the problem. and
still testing......

once logout, the logout[xxxxx] link remains there even I reload the index.php homepage or click the phpbb2 logo at the upleft corner. btw: just can't login from homepage. if I try change the profile, It'll ask for the id&passwd. My work environment: RH7.1, kernel:2.4.2-2smp; apache server 2.0.35...
